Case Study Overview: National Theatre of Iceland

Located in Reykjavik, Iceland, the National Theatre of Iceland’s dramatic contrasting dark grey surfaces and light grey decorative elements have been the main attraction to tourists and attendees since its opening day in 1950. Since the start of 2020, the theatre has served as a venue for classical and original productions, musicals, and more.

In the summer of 2020, the theatre decided to update its outdoor digital signage. Their goal was to provide high-quality schedule updates and teaser trailers outside the venue to attract the attention of those walking by.

The theater’s technical team needed a solution that not only could withstand Iceland’s harsh climate conditions but complemented the theatre’s original architectural details. After considering various options, the IT team picked Peerless-AV’s Xtreme™ High Bright Outdoor Displays.

Perfect for Iceland’s climate, the maintenance-free outdoor display can withstand temperature ranges of -31℉ to 140℉ and is protected from water, dust, and moisture. The display’s discover glass is optically bonded to combat any harsh glares optimizing viewing capabilities from any angle.

The pandemic caused the theatre to push back its installation date, but in September of 2020, the outdoor displays were successfully installed.

“The change has made the staff proud and we have people stopping in front of the theatre admiring the displays,” details the theatre’s Marketing Executive, Sváfnir Sigurõarson. “What really impresses me is how clearly you can see the images on the screens, even when the sun is shining directly on them.”
