Lincoln Park Zoo digital signage solutions

Lincoln Park Zoo, a historic institution in Chicago, was looking to modernize its guest communications and wayfinding systems while maintaining the integrity of its existing environment to preserve animal wellness and the natural landscape. In collaboration with Peerless-AV®, the zoo implemented innovative digital signage solutions, enhancing visitor engagement and providing dynamic content across high-traffic areas.

Launched during the summer of 2023 and completed by August 2024, the project involved the installation of outdoor kiosks and indoor display mounts. The solution addressed the challenges of Chicago’s extreme weather and the zoo’s environmentally sensitive areas, with Peerless-AV providing durable, high-bright displays that ensured visibility year-round. These installations ensured the guest experience could be optimized, providing more education, announcements, maps, and advertising opportunities for the zoo, leading to a successful ROI.

Due to the thoughtful placement of these displays, Peerless-AV was able to ensure the natural sleep cycles of the animals were not disturbed, and the garden areas of the zoo were preserved as well.

The indoor Searle Visitor Center installation included four 75″ Samsung landscape displays + Peerless-AV SmartMount® Universal Flat Wall Mounts (SF650), and a 55″ Samsung display + Peerless-AV SmartMount® Universal Flat Wall Mount (SF640). The outdoor East Gate area installation included three Peerless-AV Smart City Kiosks (KOP55XHB) with 55″ Xtreme™ High Bright Outdoor Displays (XHB554) fixed to concrete pedestals, each equipped with a Wi-Fi antenna + a BrightSign media player and two Peerless-AV 75″ Xtreme™ High Bright Outdoor Displays (XHB754) + Outdoor Flat Wall Mounts (ESF675) with corrosion resistant coating and stainless-steel hardware.

The successful installation transformed the zoo’s communications, allowing for real-time updates on events, attractions, and conservation efforts, while being able to use one display for all messaging points, a major improvement from the previous static signage being used. The project has increased visitor engagement and revenue while setting a new standard for digital signage in cultural and educational institutions.
