Digital Menu Boards

In June, Peerless-AV announced that our Xtreme Outdoor Digital Menu Boards passed the UL48 certification and became the first US digital menu board manufacturer to receive both the UL48 and CAN/CSA C22.2 certification standards. I’m proud that our Kiosk, ET and Manufacturing Departments worked tirelessly to acquire certification not just for US the standards, but Canadian standards as well.

Most of us have never heard of standards, and yet we come into contact with standards every day without realizing it; in fact, it’s hard to imagine a world without them. Standards contribute to safer homes, workplaces and public spaces. They address issues related to sustainability and the environment. And they encourage the adoption of new technologies and best practices that enhance trade and help make industry more competitive in the global marketplace. Standards help advance today, while anticipating tomorrow.

What is UL48 you ask? The UL48 Standard for Electric Signs was first published 95 years ago when incandescent lamps were gaining popularity as illumination sources for signage. On September 2nd, 2011, UL published the 15th Edition of UL48 to address the most recent changes in sign illumination technology including widespread use of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) light sources.

And what about CAN/CSA C22.2? The Canadian Electrical Code, CE code, or CSA C22.1 is a standard published by the Canadian Standards Association pertaining to the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in Canada. The first edition of the Canadian Electrical Code was published in 1927. The current (23rd) edition was published in 2015. C22.2 is a collection of individual standards for the evaluation of electrical equipment or installations. Part I requires that electrical products be approved to a Part II standard.

And you’re probably asking yourself why this is important. Well, the UL48 and CAN/CSA C22.2 certifications are safety standards intended to provide requirements for the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of electrical equipment, primarily to address fire and electrical shock hazards. Both marks are widely recognized and accepted by: safety inspectors, code officials and authorities having jurisdiction; safety experts and workplace safety committees; leading product manufacturers and major product distributors and retailers.

With conformity to these standards, Peerless-AV continues its dedication to “Getting it Right” for integrators and end users, proving that safety is just as important as aesthetic, functionality, and affordability.
